Keeping Cozy on a Fall Date Night

Saturday, September 19, 2015

When I think of Meijer, I normally think of fresh produce, electronics and beauty essentials. But did you know Meijer also carries stylish apparel that can be incorporated into your existing wardrobe? I was  surprised to find so many things on my fall wish list, not just for me but for my hubby-to-be, so for our next date night we stocked up on cute accessories from our favorite grocery store.

On my mission to find fall date night outfits, I was able to snag up an adorable knit poncho and brown floppy hat. How cute are these two pieces together?! They incorporated so seamlessly into my existing wardrobe, pairing this cozy poncho with a white tank top, black leggings and my favorite ankle booties. This poncho may look loosely knit, but I was so warm and cozy all night long – it definitely didn’t disappoint. This adorable panama hat completed my casual date night look (and I received compliments on it all night long), along with my go-to designer bag that mixes effortlessly with Meijer’s items to top off the cozy-chic look. For my makeup, I went with my favorite fall-inspired smoky burgundy eye look (another collab with Meijer I loved!)

Even though he’s engaged to a blogger, my fianc√© isn’t big on fashion. Luckily, we found this nice thick black sweater at Meijer that he wore over a collared button-up shirt – his favorite look! He loved how soft and thick the sweater was, and I loved how inexpensive it was to add to his closet!

Being a fashion blogger, I love finding new ways to stretch my budget – especially when it comes to stocking a wardrobe with all the trends from my favorite fashion magazines. Meijer is my new secret weapon when it comes to finding trendy items without paying designer prices. My favorite part? Trying out a trend, like a floppy hat or lace boot socks, without spending a fortune. No need to spend the big bucks if a trend isn’t one-hundred percent your thing. So next time you’re grocery shopping, you need to check out the women’s and men’s sections at Meijer. You will find fashionable and affordable pieces that can easily layer with existing wardrobe!

Posh Metals & Warm Neutrals

Friday, September 18, 2015

If I wasn't in advertising, I'd be working as an interior designer. It's in my blood - my dad designs furniture and my whole life I've been surrounded by homey, contemporary designs. After Devin and I are married next fall, one of my goals will be to completely re-design our apartment and take it from a mix-and-match of college furniture to a happy home for a married couple.

Devin isn't a huge fan of color (he thinks it can be rather "girly) so to keep my husband-to-be happy, I'll pick a metal-toned color palette, adding in creams, beiges and whites as accents. I love any shade of metal: gold, silver, rose gold or gun metal - I love it all.

One thing that's a must-have in our home - a big couch. Devin is 6'2" so you can image how cozy we can get on our little Ikea couch while trying to have a Netfix night! I'd love to get a nice long couch like this one from CB2. Add a couple fluffy throw pillows and this elegant yet cozy couch is ready for a movie night.

I love to personalize my space with pieces the reflect our relationship. Adding the "C & D" lights on the marble and gold shelves take this from anyone's space to home we can truly call our own. Finally, I'd top this room off with some gold and silver accessories. These pieces are timeless and would last us well into when we purchase our first home.

OOTD: Fall Neutrals with a Pop of color

Tuesday, September 15, 2015

Anyone else SO ready to trade in sandals and shorts for booties and moto jackets? I've been waiting to break out my over-sized sweaters and booties for weeks now!

Adorable local Milwaukee boutique, Shop Lizzibeth, shared their new "Toss Er On Sweater Jacket" on their Instagram last week and knew I had to build a look around it. I love how neutral this jacket is so it can be perfectly paired with other earth tones. But with all those neutrals, you need a pop of color (pink is always a good idea)!

Love this look? If you're not in the Chicago or Milwaukee area, be sure to check out Shop Lizzibeth's online boutique!

Drugstore Look: Burgundy Smokey Eye

Sunday, September 13, 2015

Fall is just around the corner and I am prepping my eyes for deep browns, burgundies, and shades of purple! Most of my makeup looks contain high-end brands, so for this post I wanted to show you how you can get a gorgeous smokey eye look for fall on a drugstore price. This is the perfect look because it can be worn for any occasion, casual or dressy.

To preface this post, I wanted to thank the Meijer Style team for generously sending me all these makeup products (and a few other as well)! And WARNING: Because this look is SMOKED OUT there are quite a few bear with me!

Here's what you'll need for this look:

L'Oreal Liquid Glow Illuminator
COVERGIRL The Super Sizer Mascara
COVERGIRL Outlast Lipstick in Magnetic Mauve (#945)
Revlon Colorstay Eyeshadow Palette in Free Spirit (#580)
Maybelline The Blushes Nudes Eyeshadow Palette

After you apply your normal foundation, concealer, bronzer and blush, prime your eyes with your favorite eyelid primer.  Then follow these steps:

1. Blend light grey shade from the Revlon palette (sorry, they don't have names on the packages!) and blend it out all over the lid.

2. Take the golden brown shimmer shade from the Maybelline palette (very right top shade, again so sorry - they don't name their colors!) and blend that into the crease.

3. Take the cranberry shade from the Maybelline palette (fifth on the bottom row) and packed that all over my eyelid.

4. Take an eyeshadow brush without any eyeshadow and blended everything out to create a nice ombre effect.

5. Go in with the dark brown shimmer shade from the Maybelline palette (second on the bottom row) and blended that into the bottom half of my crease.

6. Take the cranberry dark brown shimmer shade (last on the bottom) and add that to the outer corner of your eyelid to add dimension.

7. Use the white shimmer shade from the Maybelline palette to highlight the inner corner of your eye.

8. Take that same cranberry dark brown shimmer shade and line your lower lash line. Then blend it out with that first grey shade we used in Step 1.

9. After you go in with your favorite brow pencil and liquid eyeliner, top it off with COVERGIRL's The Super Sizer Mascara.

10. Take a small amount of the L'Oreal Liquid Glow Illuminator and dab it under the brow bone.

The end result should look something like this:

Last step is to apply COVERGIRL's Outlast Lipstick in Magnetic Mauve lipstick and the look is complete!

If you're interested in any of the products I've used in this look, head to your local Meijer store between September 13th thru the 20th during their huge beauty sale. Nothing better than getting a gorgeous look at a fraction of the cost!

Stay beautiful!
