I'm already in love with Becca Cosmetics' Shimmering Skin Perfector in the shade Opal, so when I found out Becca and Jaclyn Hill collaborated on a limited edition shade, I just HAD to get my hands on it! You can watch Jacyln talk about her fabulous collab with Becca in her "June Favorites" video about 1:00 minute in. While you're at it, watch ALL of Jaclyn's videos! I'm loving this girl's vibe and attitude - she literally brightens my day with her goofiness!

You guys. I. AM. IN. LOVE. I was a little hesitant to purchase Champagne Pop in fear that it might be too close in color to Opal but there is a difference between the two. Champagne Pop is definitely warmer with more yellow gold tones while Opal is cooler and rosy gold. No regrets with this purchase here!

I've been using Champagne Pop every day since I purchased it and love how perfectly it pairs with my new favorite BareMinerals Posh Neutrals eyeshadow palette. Here's my look:

If your local Sephora store has Champagne Pop GO PICK IT UP!! You will not regret it if you love yourself a good highlight.

I'll close this post with the wise words of Jaclyn Hill - "HIGHLIGHT ON FLEEK!"

YouTube Beauty Icons: Women to Follow

Call it lame, but some of my favorite nights include a glass a wine and binge-watching session of the latest YouTube videos curated by the following lovely women.

There are a couple reasons why I love these women so much. ONE: (Selfishly) Their skin color is so close to mine and I can confidently order makeup online and know it will be a match and TWO: they are REAL women! They're gals like you and me. They show a variety of everyday looks from natural to showstopper. They embody all things classic and wonderful. And these looks are attainable. While yes, they often use products from Sephora and high end makeup counters, they almost always compare expensive products to more wallet-friendly drugstore brands.

If you don't already, follow all these ladies on their social media platforms! I'll have all their links below.

Back to Blogging & Life Update!

Hello hello hello, everyone!!

It's been WAY too long since I've posted on Chicago Prepster - five months to be exact. The real world definitely got the best of me over the last couple months, and while I was still super active on my Twitter and Instagram my blog definitely took a hit. Mine and Devin's laptops were actually BOTH out of commission for a while and I didn't want to use my work computer for personal blogging (#professionaltip). But we're both back up and running now and I'm insistent on getting back on a regular blogging schedule!

So what have I been up to these past 5 months? Working, working, working. Even one year after I graduated from college I'm still adjusting to having to create a work-life balance. In the past week, however, I've excitedly ACCEPTED A NEW JOB at a new advertising agency! Thanks to a former employer, I'll be working in social media management and content creation - much more up my alley than what I've been doing for the past year. Network, people. I'm telling you it works!

Devin and I also moved into a new apartment which we are extremely excited about. It's way more updated than our last apartment and closer to the Chicago lakefront and beautiful Lincoln Park. Our new kitchen is a dream and Devin has already created some wonderful meals for us and our friends (he's a chef in Chicago, if I've never mentioned that before). Here's my favorite little corner in our new apartment with a make-shift gallery wall. We still have some furniture to purchase and final touches to make, but we love it so far!

Other than that, nothing else has been particularly new. Devin and I will be celebrating FIVE YEARS together next months which is completely mind-blowing. I've been collecting some awesome beauty products over the last couple months that I would love to review for y'all. I've also contemplated filming videos on makeup how-to's and product reviews, but I'm still thinking that one over. If you have a blog post request, leave a comment below and I'll add it to my blogging schedule!

Thank you all for sticking with me through this blogging hiatus, and I can't wait to get back to creating some amazing content for you!

Lou & Grey: Comfortably Confident

Lou & Grey has been my go to fashion brand during this terribly cold Chicago weather, and with some of their new spring items coming out, I'm hoping to continue that trend! Below are some of my favorite looks from this fantastically neutral collection.

Lou and grey

What I love most about Lou & Grey is how effortlessly they can be styled. They are chic enough for the work place and yet comfy to keep me happy and throughout the day. All Lou & Grey pieces can be mixed and matched but they also pair seamlessly with my existing wardrobe. Their natural color palette of blues and greys allows me to be fun with my makeup and accessories. I just pick my favorite top or sweater, slide on my favorite skinny jeans, put on my boots and I'm good to go!

If you like any of these looks, you're in luck! Some of these items are up to 60% off on Loft's website (I may have had an online shopping spree yesterday)!

Spirit Lead Me...

I wanted to take a break today from blogging about fashion and beauty and talk about something that has become extremely important to me lately: my faith and spirituality. To preface, this post isn't about preaching to my readers how to pursue their own spiritual journey. I want to share how my desire to build a relationship with God has tremendously helped me during the difficult times I've had during the first few years of adulthood.

In the past, I've written about some of the health issues I was able to overcome within the last couple years. Thanks to some incredible doctors and the support of my friends and family, I was able to overcome a severe anxiety disorder that was controlling every facet of my life. I truly believe the thing that lead to such a speedy recovery was my spirituality. If you've struggled with anxiety, you know the feeling - you feel everything is out of your control and something catastrophic could happen at any moment. I was tired of living in constant fear, so I decided to reconnect with God.

I grew up going to church every Sunday with my family, but as I got older the church visits became more sporadic. In 2010, however, my grandfather passed away while I was on a plane back to the U.S. from a two week trip in Europe. I was devastated and was never able to say goodbye to a man who instilled so many good morals in me. My grandpa was the most spiritually strong man I knew and had been fighting Lymphoma since before I was born. He attributed his periods of remission to some of the best doctors in the country, and more importantly, his faith. After several Catholic funeral services in California and Michigan, I started to regret the lack of time I spent in church with my grandfather and wished I had had more time with him in a place that was so meaningful to him. As part of my grieving, I started to seek the Lord to not only connect with Him, but with my grandpa.

Flash forward a couple years and I'm crying in the doctor's office hearing my anxiety diagnosis for the first time. It was almost the same feeling as losing my grandpa: a piece of me was gone and the situation was completely out of my control. While organizing my recovery plan, I decided I wanted to connect with God like I had never before. I wanted to know, whole-heartedly, that someone was watching out for me, guiding me, and protecting me from my fears and anxiety. I started going to a Hillsong church here in Chicago and actually reading the Bible that had been sitting on my bookshelf for years. I would highlight and memorize scripture that helped me cope with my anxiety and repeated them to myself during times of distress. I don't know what I would have done without 1 Peter 5:7 - "Cast all your anxieties on Him because He cares for you."

It's been almost a year since my last appointment with my therapist and my relationship with God continues to grow. He has given me the strength to let go and trust He will do what He can to let me live a life without fear of the unknown. Part of my recovery was taking daily runs on Chicago's Lakefront running path. All my life I've been a horrendous runner, but after a few weeks I was easily running three miles. It was then I thought, "Wow, God allows my body to do amazing things. He is here for me. He is with me."

I guess the point of this blog post was to let people know that whatever you're going through, there is someone, or something, protecting you from your deepest fears. If you're struggling with anything in your life, I encourage you to talk to someone about what you're going through, whether that be a family member, a friend, a doctor or God. Just speaking the words of your troubles can alleviate even the heaviest amount of weigh off your shoulders.

Untitled #61

It it just me or are our favorite designers not coming out with enough iPhone 6 and iPhone 6+ cases to feed our preppy phone case addictions? I've had the hardest time finding a case for my iPhone 6 and I've been sticking to $2 cases from Amazon (yuck). I've chatted with some of you on Twitter about this preppy predicament and wanted to share some ADORABLE iPhone 6 and iPhone 6+ cases that I think will satisfy our need for something stylish on your phone.

Whitney Blake "Brave Fearless & Free" Case
Scarlet & Gold "Colors of the Wind" Case
Simple Jessica Marie "Watercolor Black Stripes" Case
Rifle Paper Co. "Violet Floral" Case
Ban.do "I Am Very Busy" Case

I am big advocate of shopping small, so if you are in need of a new iPhone case - please shop from one these small businesses!

 Have a great weekend, everyone!

Power of Pink

Ladies, I've found the power of pink and I'm not letting go! I always turn to my Twitter followers when I need a new beauty product recommendation, and when I asked for your favorite hot pink lipsticks, y'all sent me to pink heaven. One of my bloggers friends Seersucker Sass pointed me to Revlon's ColorBust Matte Lip Balm in Showy (pictured below). I picked it up at Walgreens the following day and I've worn it every day since!

I've always been weary of trying drug store brand products, but when a trusted blogger tells you about a great product at an affordable price, it's worth the $8 investment. Don't get me wrong - I love my high end lip tints from companies like Tarte and Benefit, but you can't beat the color saturation and the price of Revlon's lip balms. If you're looking for a new lip color in any price range, take a look at my favorites above!

If you have a favorite product you think I should try, comment below or tweet me!

Luscious Layers
Necklace / Scarf / Tee / Sweater / Coat

Being a post-grad professional doesn't mean you have to be dressed to the nines one hundred percent of the time. Long nights and early mornings in the office have caused me to take on a new style: COMFY CHIC. Yes, you can be stylish and super comfortable. Anything I can pair with my favorite leggings and riding boots in a fashionable way is my new favorite outfit.

Layers are the perfect way to achieve my effortless comfy style. Modcloth, one of my favorite online boutiques, has the perfect layering pieces at an affordable price. I like to keep things neutral in the winter, so I usually start with a white or ivory layering tee like this one. You need something fun to counteract a plain tee, so pick a fun sweater or cardigan, like Modcloth's Cuddle Classic Cardigan. Anyone can rock a black down-filled coat when the temperature drops, but I like to take out my favorite utility coat to keep me warm. I have some similar to Modcloth's Cosmopolitan Charm Coat - I love the contrasting black and grey colors in this coat!

Next, I like to bring my neutral layered look to life with some colorful accessories. I tend to pick between necklaces and earrings for my looks - I love this gorgeous statement necklace like this Every Now and Gem Necklace. I top my whole look off with a colorful infinity scarf to keep me warm on my commutes into and out of the office.

Be sure to check out Modcloth's online boutique for all your layered needs this winter season!
